Jacket Backers select student athletes of the month

(ROCKWALL, TX — October 11, 2017) The Rockwall High School Jacket Backers have selected senior Ginger Stephenson as the September “Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month.” Stephenson was nominated by volleyball coach Damon Wilson.

Stephenson had 51 kills hitting at a .250 efficiency with 96 digs during the month of September, leading her team to 7 straight wins. Stephenson is a captain on the volleyball team, as well as a great player, leader and student. From the coach: “Ginger Stephenson is an absolute all around stud on the volleyball court. She can hit, serve, pass and play defense with the best of them and does it all with an awesome positive, contagious attitude.”

Also nominated: Kate Avery (Sophomore) for cross country.

The Rockwall High School Jacket Backers also selected freshman River Hill as the September “Jacket Athlete of the Month.”

Hill has been one of the highest finishers on the team the last three meets. He placed 10th in a time of 17:35 at the Stallion Stampede last week. He is a freshman who has already ran under 17 in 5K. As a freshman he has placed in the top 10 at five of the six meets the team has attended so far this season.

Also nominated: Lo’Yer Bailey (Senior) for football.

The Jacket Backers selects one male student athlete for Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month and one female student athlete for Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month from a pool of candidates recommended by each varsity head coach.
