(ROWLETT, TX — December 21, 2017) On Dec. 9 the Rowlett Chamber of Commerce held the 4th annual Sunset Santa 5K & Festival. The festival portion of the event was new this year and added to the success and festivities.
Each year the race has benefited a local non-profit such as last year’s benefactor Life Message. This year Troy Ellison of Gencore Payment Services, the race title sponsor, presented a check for $1000 to Pastor Ann Dotson for The Reindeer Project, a program of First Christian Church of Rowlett. The Reindeer Project provides Christmas gifts to more than a thousand children each year.
The festival began at 3:30 p.m. with vendors lining the streets of downtown Rowlett. Vendors ranged from food trucks to jewelry and craft sales to health supplements and aids. The race officially kicked off at 4:30 p.m. and gave many of the finishers a wonderful view of the setting sun as they crossed the finish line in front of Bankhead Brewery. After the race concluded medals were awarded to all of the age group winners as well as the overall winners, Morten Aasland and Anny Sivilay. The festival concluded at 7:00 p.m.
Other sponsors of the race included Rowlett’s Fit Body Boot Camp, Nutrition with Attitude, Datatronic Control Inc and Brady Ingle, Famers Insurance. The photo booth with Santa Claus was sponsored by Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lake Pointe sponsored and 5-Star HVAC Contractors was the Santa Hat sponsor. DART was the official transportation provider and the Village of Rowlett is the race results page sponsor.
Photos of the event and winners can be found on the Sunset Santa 5K & Festival Facebook page.
