During the regular meeting of the Commissioners Court on March 27, Rockwall County Judge David Sweet read proclamations honoring the efforts of Lone Star CASA and the CAC in supporting children and families in the county.

“We’re really blessed to live in Rockwall County. But we don’t live in a bubble, and it really takes everyone working together, and that’s really the core of the Children’s Advocacy Center’s model,” said Patricia Mejia, President and CEO of the Rockwall CAC. “We work very closely with law enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, CPS, healthcare providers and  mental health professionals, and we all work very collaboratively to provide that response to kids and families who are in need.”

The Rockwall CAC building recently saw some major renovations thanks to the efforts of community volunteers. The building was generously donated to the CAC by the Rockwall Soroptimists, and helped pave the way for the CAC to become the 70th child advocacy center in the state to open its doors.

“A lot of people came together to create an environment that is not only safely secure and confidential, but also is child friendly,” Mejia said.

The Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County provides a safe, child-friendly environment where law enforcement, child protective services, prosecution, medical and mental health professionals can collaborate within the Rockwall community to develop coordinated strategies to more effectively seek justice and promote healing for victims of child abuse.
