(ROCKWALL, TX — September 27, 2018) The Commissioners Court adopted the Rockwall County tax rate for the 2018 tax year during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 25.
The court unanimously approved a motion by Rockwall County Judge David Sweet for the county to adopt a tax rate of 32.84 cents per $100 assessed value for the 2018 tax year. The motion also included adopting the following rates for the 2018 tax year:
-Property tax rate of 32.84 cents per $100 assessed value
-Effective M&O tax rate of 24.27 cents per $100 assessed value
-Rollback tax rate of 35.25 cents per $100 assessed value (adjusted for sales tax)
-Debt rate of 8.57 cents per $100 assessed value
The property tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year is $1,663,823.
“I’d like to relay my sentiments regarding the budget process of getting to work with the dedicated elected officials and department heads who work on this all year long,” Sweet said. “I feel very confident that after going through the process, this group made the absolute right decision at this time for our county.”
The adopted tax rate is two cents lower than the rate set out for county in the last tax year. Commissioner Lee Gilbert added that the adopted rate is one of the lowest of all Texas counties.
“If you were to take all the counties in the state that are our size or larger, we have the fourth lowest tax rate in the state of Texas,” Gilbert said.
