The Last Well Founder to Camp Out Aboard Barge on Lake Ray Hubbard to Raise $2 Million for Clean Water Initiative
(ROCKWALL, TX — October 8, 2018) The founder of Rockwall nonprofit, The Last Well, will take a stand for clean water in Liberia by floating on a handmade barge on Lake Ray Hubbard. Beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, Dr. Todd Phillips will embark on his nonprofit’s initiative, “Hope Floats.”
Phillips plans to camp out on the lake aboard the barge until he raises $2.29 million. The effort will bring The Last Well one step closer to providing safe drinking water to the entire country of Liberia, West Africa by Dec. 31, 2020.
“We’re providing every single human access to safe drinking water within a 15-minute walking distance of their home,” said Phillips. “When we’ve completed our mission, history will be made.”
To support The Last Well’s Hope Floats mission, Sawyer International will provide Sawyer water filters, sunscreen and bug spray to aid Phillips on the lake.
Sawyer International has played a large role in supporting The Last Well’s goal to bring clean water to Liberia. The organization has distributed nearly 120,000 Sawyer PointONE water filter systems in communities across Liberia. This effort has greatly reduced waterborne illness-related diarrhea cases in the country, from 36 percent to 1.5 percent. Sawyer International teams have also helped teach Liberians how to use and clean the water filters.
