Good Neighbor: Meet Lindsay Mitchell, Rockwall Boys & Girls Club Board President

Lindsay Mitchell

Meet Lindsay Mitchell, President of the Board of Directors of the Rockwall Boys & Girls Club. Lindsay grew up in Rockwall as the youngest of three siblings – Amy, Molly and Bo – and has lived here for 35 years. She works as a licensed real estate agent and loves helping people find their dream home.

Tell me about how you first became involved with the Boys and Girls Club. What led to your interest in it?

In 2014, Debi Williamson, Tim Cypert and myself started the Family 2 Family Thanksgiving meal benefitting the BGC. After seeing and meeting so many BGC families and kids, I knew there was a mission there that I wanted to be a part of.

In what capacity do you currently serve at the BGC? What do you find most fulfilling about your role?

I currently serve as the President of the Rockwall Board and sit on the Corporate Board for Northeast Texas as well.  What I find most fulfilling is being able to be a voice for the kids that need us most in my community.

For those who may be unfamiliar with the BGC, what are some important things for them to know about the organization?

Our club is currently housed in portables at Rochell Elementary. We have many great programs for our kids. Power Hour is a teacher favorite; this is a time where kids get homework help to ensure homework is done before kids go home. Our club is a safe and fun place where kids and teens can imagine and realize their potential. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those that need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Seventy percent of the students at Rochell are on the free and reduced meal plan. Students that are on this plan get two of three meals at school. Boys & Girls Club members attend the club after school and receive a third meal and a snack. For many kids, this is crucial.

What are some of the ways the BGC has been able to continue serving kids while under the Shelter In Place Order?

Though, due to COVID-19, we cannot connect in person, we are implementing a daily Facebook Live program (M-F, 3pm) where our staff will lead youth through a structured program or activity. This not only will provide stability for our youth, but support and connection for our parents and families as well. We are also actively working with local partners to find ways to meet needs and advocate for youth as things unfold.

April is Go Blue month in support of child abuse prevention and awareness. In what ways does the BGC help advocate for child abuse prevention?

Our kids and Board members will be taking a special photo in April with some RAD glasses to show our support for this prevention and awareness. We will also be working with Patricia at the CAC to talk to the kids about what child abuse looks like, learning to speak up and how to prevent it.

Besides the BGC, what are your other passions?

I am passionate about real estate and being a bridge to home ownership for my clients. I love bringing fun and personality to every transaction and every family. I love golf and play every chance I get. I love spending time with my family and friends, and I love my church home at Lake Pointe. I am very passionate about my community and serve in many different capacities. I serve on the Board of Directors for the Rockwall ISD Education Foundation and the Architectural Review Board for the City of Rockwall.  I am a proud Leadership Rockwall Alum and member of the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce. I am very passionate about the Leadership program and think it’s so important in cultivating future leaders in our community.

Who is your idol and why?

I don’t have any idols but I look up to and inspire to be more like my mother and grandmother. My grandmother is in Heaven now, but these two women are identical in nature. Both strong, faithful, loving and servant-hearted women. My mother is halfway into her 70s and has the energy of a teenager. She is my best friend, biggest supporter and golf partner. She serves in her church, serves her family, serves her home and serves her King.

What’s your favorite spring activity?

Golfing. Least favorite is sneezing.

What’s something about you most people would be surprised to learn?

I am pretty much an open book. If you know me, you know just about everything about me. A few random fun facts: I am an empath, an avid sports fan and I have five tattoos.

Which color of the rainbow do you think best describes you (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet)?

Orange, because JFND of course!
