(ROCKWALL, TX — April 21, 2020) This weekend, realtors Rick and Dianna Johnson of RE/MAX Landmark in Rockwall will host a fundraiser offering handcrafted face masks and the chance to support a noteworthy cause.

On Saturday, April 25, join the RE/MAX Landmark team in their parking lot (2850 Shoreline Trail) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. to purchase a handcrafted face mask for a minimum $10 donation to Meals on Wheels Senior Services (MOWSS). The cloth face masks – provided by  Paradise Farms in Heath – come in a variety of colors and patterns, are washable and even have a place to insert a filter. Masks for both adults and kids will be available during the fundraiser. Precautions for COVID-19 will be observed during the event ensure everyone’s safety.to

Rick and Dianna said the idea for the fundraiser came about when their friends Ken McNaughton and Debbie Barlow of Paradise Farms had acquired some handmade masks. Knowing how passionate Rick and Dianna are about MOWSS, they approached them with the idea of offering the masks to the community for donations to the organization.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the closing of the contract kitchen where daily meals are prepared, MOWSS has suspended its daily meal deliveries to its elderly and homebound clients. Through monetary donations from the community, MOWSS put together emergency food boxes and is now delivering weekly frozen meals to seniors. Donations are being accepted to help fill the need.

Dianna said donations from the face masks fundraising event will help fund those vital emergency food boxes for seniors – the most at-risk population for developing more severe symptoms of the coronavirus.

“I love what Meals on Wheels does for the seniors in our community,” Dianna said. “I grew up in Rockwall and love giving back to the community. It is heartbreaking to think that a senior in Rockwall would not be able to eat and live safely in their home. So many families don’t live near their parents these days. Both my husband and I have family members that were able to stay in their homes through the efforts of Meals on Wheels. I believe that people don’t realize how many seniors in Rockwall live by themselves, and the only companionship they have is the volunteer that delivers their meals. I also love the staff – they are amazing!”

Apart from her job as a real estate agent at RE/MAX Landmark, Dianna also serves as the Sponsor Chair on the MOWSS Gala Committee for their annual gala held this fall. The theme for this year’s gala is “Ain’t Life Grand”, with the event held at Edison’s Dallas on Oct. 24. The gala is one of the biggest fundraisers for MOWSS, with last year’s event drawing more than 300 people. Those interested in becoming a sponsor of the event can contact Dianna at diannamunro@aol.com or MOWSS at 972-771-9514.
