Rockwall Commissioners Court proclaims June 12th as Women’s Veterans Day

(ROCKWALL, TX — June 9, 2020) During its regular meeting today, June 9th, the Rockwall County Commissioners Court proclaimed June 12, 2020 as Women’s Veterans Day in the county.

The proclamation recognizes all women who have served their country through the United States Armed Forces. June 12th was chosen because that’s the date President Harry Truman signed into law the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, which enabled women to serve for the first time as permanent, regular members of the Armed Forces.

“We encourage all citizens to celebrate and honor all women veterans, and pledge to them that we shall never forget their sacrifice and contributions they continue to make across our community and country. We extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude for their service to our nation and its people,” said Rockwall County Judge David Sweet.
