ROCKWALL, TX – August 17, 2020 — The Rockwall city council proclaimed today, Aug. 17, 2020, as Tom Egan Appreciation Day in honor of one of the community’s most highly respected first responders.

After briefly serving with the Highland Park Police Department as a patrolman, Tom Egan began his 26-year career with the Rockwall Police Department in 1978. Throughout his years with Rockwall PD, Egan served as field training officer, firearms instructor, shift supervisor, shift lieutenant, and school resource officer at Rockwall High School.

Egan was also heavily involved in the Rockwall Santa Cops program, was a member of the Rockwall Fire Department and also served as a reserve officer for Heath DPS. He began serving as sergeant in 1992 and was know for his uncanny ability to instill a positive attitude in those he trained until his retirement in 2004. Former Rockwall Police Chief Bruce Beatty described Egan as “a quiet, steady, hardworking man who was all business and by the book. When he puts his uniform on: a good Christian man who lives out his faith and supports his family 100 percent.”

Earlier last week, the Rockwall County Commissioners Court proclaimed Aug. 14, 2020 as Tom Egan Day in the county.  Egan’s fellow first responders joined the community in a car parade in his honor. Watch the parade in its entirety below:
