Rockwall community shows overwhelming support for 3-year-old with Leukemia

Cameron Tate

ROCKWALL, TX – September 18, 2020 — When Laura and Nathan Tate of Rockwall arrived on vacation in early August, their 3-year-old son Cameron became lethargic and unable to walk. After rushing him to the ER, his diagnosis was confirmed: Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). After more than a month’s worth of chemotherapy at John Hopkins All children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL., Cameron and family recently returned home to an overwhelming showing of support and love from the community.

Cameron’s great grandmother Carol Lawrence organized a welcome home art display, with poster art created by friends and family aligning the fence of the Tate’s property. Yard art by A Grassy Greeting also greeted the Tate family upon their arrival.

Cameron’s illness not only came as a shock to the family, but left them faced with unexpected medical expenses as he continues his care at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. Nathan, a Dallas restaurateur and chef, has recently faced temporary business hardships caused by COVID-19.

To help the family with their medical bills, folks in the Rockwall community are organizing some fundraisers supporting Cameron and family through this difficult time. A group of hair stylists and barbers organized by Ashley Reeves of Ami Kristen Studio will host their Cuts for Cam fundraiser on Sept. 27, by appointment only. All proceeds will go to the Tate family for medical expenses. Downing Bottle and Bites in downtown Rockwall will launch Cam’s Cocktail, with proceeds from sales going to the Tate family. The concoction includes all of Cam’s favorites: chocolate, honey and toasted marshmallow – the perfect drink for fall weather!

A Support for Cameron gofundme is also available for those wishing to show support for the Tate family. To donate please visit www.gofundme.com/f/zv5trj-support-for-cameron.
