Rockwall Meals on Wheels ’20s-themed gala a grand success for homebound seniors

ROCKWALL, TX – October 29, 2020 — Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County raised some bigtime mazuma (that’s ’20s slang for money) with their Ain’t Life Grand-ish Gala held on Oct. 24 at the historic Boyd Farm.

The Roaring Twenties-themed event welcomed the community to enjoy an evening of live music by Michael Summers and 30 Miles East, mouth-watering eats served up by Eddie Deen’s BBQ, and silent auction and raffle prizes. Gala-goers also received free charcuterie boards courtesy of The Kitschy Cupboard. To accommodate for social distancing, guests had the option to enjoy the night’s festivities from the comfort of their cars, or get their charcuterie boards to go to enjoy at home while catching the action on the event’s Facebook Live broadcast presented by Blue Ribbon News.

The annual gala helps MOWSS raise funds to be able to provide more meals to homebound seniors throughout the county. This year’s event was a huge success, and will help MOWSS provide more than 7,000 additional meals to seniors.

“I would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s gala event, and to all of the amazing sponsors, volunteers, MOWSS staff and attendees,” said MOWSS Development Director Maureen Cook. “With the proceeds raised, we will be able to provide 7,142 additional meals for our seniors in Rockwall County.”

“What a great success!” said MOWSS Executive Director Margie VerHagen. “The generosity from the attendees and sponsors will keep Meals on Wheels going during these unprecedented times. We are overwhelmed by the support we have received from all corners of our community!

Congrats to the following winners of the night’s silent auction:

Harley and Jerolyn Finnell — Private Dinner for 8 with our Hometown Heroes
Melissa Moseley — $1,000 Shopping Spree & $300 Foodie Hopping; Gentlemen’s Swag & $1,000 Shopping Spree
