Celebration of Life: Joan Worthing Miller

ROCKWALL, TX – Jan. 20, 2021 — Joan Worthing Miller, age 88, passed away from this life into Heaven on Monday, January 11, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Rockwall, Texas.

Joan was born in Boyne City, Michigan to Arden Leslie Worthing and Geraldine Holland Worthing. She accepted Jesus into her life in August 1961 at age 29. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mesquite.

She married Tom Ed Miller on December 31, 1953 and had two children: Tommy Miller and Tina Miller. Tom and Joan were married for 47 years before his death in December 2000.

She worked at Sears Roebuck & Co. on Lamar for 22 years as a Timekeeper. Tom worked there also as a linehaul driver. They enjoyed attending Sears retiree gatherings over the years. In her younger days she also worked at Woolworths and Curtis Candy.

She was a volunteer for the Parent Teacher’s Association (PTA) and a leader for the Camp Fire Girls Club. She was loved as a wife, sister, aunt, coworker, and neighbor, but her favorite roles were mother and grandmother.



She enjoyed baking and cooking for family, especially Tommy. She loved pecan log rolls from Stuckey’s, and she loved Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Ed Miller; her sister, Carol Jean Brazil; and her brother, Robert Leslie Worthing.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Tommy & Denise Miller; daughter and her husband, Tina & Gary Millican; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Sean Dooley, Tommy Miller, Alexander Millican, Gary Millican, Michael Worthing, and Rocky Worthing.

Family Graveside services will be held on January 26, 2021 at 2:00PM at Grove Hill Memorial Park, Dallas, with Pastor Scott Gray officiating. The family asks anyone attending to please meet inside the Funeral Home so we all may go together. Services will also be livestreamed on the Grove Hill Funeral Home Facebook Page.

Visitation will follow immediately afterwards for anyone to attend at the residence of Tina and Gary Millican in Rockwall, Texas.
