Grace Hartman Elementary shines with more than 200 acts of kindness

ROCKWALL, TX – March 16, 2021 — Grace Hartman Elementary recently partnered with Raise Craze to complete a kindness-focused fundraising campaign. During the fundraiser, in-person and virtual students showed their appreciation to donors by completing acts of kindness for others. By the end of the campaign, students completed over 235 acts of kindness and raised $10,615!

“We’ve heard that this fundraiser has been not only beneficial in the classroom but also at home! Encouraging students to think outside of themselves and look to helping others promotes good in the entire community,” said Alison Bray, Hartman PTA President.

Students have done everything from picking up trash in the community to writing notes to teachers, first responders, and healthcare workers. Several students also made gratitude baskets for mail carriers and delivery drivers.

“I really like being kind, and want me and my friends to keep being kind even though the fundraiser has ended,” said second grader, Makenna Murrey.

In addition to individual acts of kindness, the school is partnering with the North Texas Food Bank’s “Cards for Hope” Program, which spreads hope and cheer to neighbors in need. Students were also encouraged to report back on their acts of kindness, and the school is in the process of building a kindness chain to given students a visual of how far their kindness can reach.

“We have enjoyed seeing the students’ excitement about spreading kindness in our community,” said Hartman Principal, Becky Reidling. “It’s something we, as a school, have always encouraged, and we hope to continue to build on that excitement moving forward.”

The PTA helped students celebrate their kindness just before Spring Break by writing notes of encouragement on the sidewalks near the entrance to the school.

Hartman PTA partners with the school to provide many educational initiatives throughout the year for the students of Grace Hartman Elementary. To support Hartman PTA or other schools in our community, please visit: www.joinpta.org.
