With new program, Rockwall County voters can vote at any polling location on Election Day
ROCKWALL, TX – May 26, 2021 — Rockwall County has been accepted into the Countywide Polling Program, allowing voters to cast ballots wherever is most convenient to them on Election Day.
“This will fundamentally change the way we vote in this county,” said Rockwall County Elections Administrator Chris Lynch.
Earlier this year, Lynch appeared before the Commissioners Court to seek approval to apply to the state for acceptance into the Countywide Polling Program. The Court voted to allow it and two subsequent public hearings were held to listen to concerns from voters.
Voters will still be assigned a precinct, but on Election Day, voters will be able to vote wherever they want as opposed to voting at a specific location. This action also facilitates removing schools as polling locations. Schools that will no longer be used include Nebbie Williams, Cullins-Lake Pointe, Dorris Jones, Amanda Rochelle, and Pullen Elementary.
As part of the program, new polling locations on Election Day include the Rockwall County Library, City Center (Rockwall), Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Gene Burton College & Career Academy.
More than a third of the counties in the state of Texas participate in the Countywide Polling Program.
