Rockwall Police Department joins community in honoring fallen officers during National Police Week

ROCKWALL, TX – May 12, 2021 — The Rockwall Police Department held a memorial service in honor of National Police Week, honoring officers across the state who died in the line of duty this past year. Among the fallen who were honored during the ceremony was Rockwall Police Department Officer Tracy Gaines, who died during the morning hours of Aug. 3, 2020 due to complications from COVID-19.

The names and ranks of the 57 law enforcement officers who have passed were read aloud, followed by words of prayer and words of remembrance from former Rockwall Mayor Jim Pruitt, City Manager Mary Smith and Rockwall Police Department Chief Max Geron.

“Those who were lost are as fully our brothers and our sisters as any of our actual kin, and in staying true to our profession’s code of ethics and steadfast moral compass, we honor our brothers and sisters who laid down their lives in the furtherance of our own safety,” Geron said. “In doing so, we honor them more fully, and not just one week, one day or one hour of the year. We dedicate our lives to honoring those who sacrificed everything by carrying out their duties to the best of their ability.”

This week we remember the lives of the following fallen officers who made the ultimate sacrifice:
