ROCKWALL, TX – September 21, 2021 — Former Rockwall Mayor Jim Pruitt announced his intent to run for Rockwall County Commissioner, Precinct 2, in front of over 200 supporters at a Labor Day barbecue and fundraiser at his home.
“I am excited about the opportunity to continue to serve,” he told the crowd which included many elected and former elected officials. “I love this county and want to help it grow and prosper.”
Pruitt, who served as the Rockwall Mayor for six years, rolled off due to term limits this past May. He served as a City Councilman and the Rockwall Mayor Pro Tem prior to being elected as Mayor.
Pruitt has lived in Rockwall for almost 20 years but had an interesting journey getting here. He worked in the Alaskan oil fields after graduating from high school. He then worked his way through college and law school before opening up a law practice in Dallas.
In 1994, he was elected as the Republican Judge of Dallas County Criminal Court #2. In his tenure as judge, he was instrumental in creating the first dedicated domestic violence court in North Texas and was elected by his judicial colleagues as the Presiding Judge over the Dallas County Courts.
After Judge Pruitt left the bench, the board-certified lawyer moved to Rockwall and started a law firm in a renovated office building that dates back to the early 1900’s just off the downtown Rockwall square.
He was elected to the Rockwall City Council in 2012 and elected Mayor in 2015.
“Tough times need aggressive and effective leaders,” said Pruitt, a conservative Republican. “I am proud that as Mayor I led the effort to decrease the city’s tax rate in each year I served. I look forward to continuing this fiscally responsible trend if elected.”
Pruitt has four children and lives in Rockwall. He and his wife are members of the First United Methodist Church of Rockwall.
