Adventures with the Editor: Yesterland Farm

ROCKWALL, TX – October 26, 2021 — My wife Julie and I recently hosted our friends Hannah and Nathan from Arkansas and treated them to a super fun weekend full of fall festivities, good food, and of course lots of pumpkins! One of the places we took them is a huge farm out in Canton known as Yesterland Farm (15410 Interstate 20 Canton, TX 75103). This place is a giant wonderland of fall family fun, which turns into the haunted Spooktacular Nights attraction when the sun goes down. Yesterland Farm features over 30 attractions and activities, including a three-acre corn maze, pumpkin patch, rides and more. At dark, you’ll find plenty of spooky scares for the whole family, including a Haunted Hayride, Chuckles Funhouse, Zombie Paintball, Vertigo Vortex, Goblin Glow and the Creepy Corn Maze.

Here’s a rundown of our day at Yesterland Farm!

Pumpkin House & Photo Opps

There are tons of spots to get some great fall pictures all around Yesterland Farm. Two of the most noteworthy are the Pumpkin House and the big Texas flag mural. And of course you can’t miss the big sign for the farm out front which makes for a great group picture or selfie spot!

Animal Town

When you first walk into Yesterland Farm, you’ll find yourself smack dab in the middle of Animal Town. Here you can drop into special shops themed after farm animals such as Goatel 6, Donkey Dentistry and Funky Llama Floral Shop. There’s also a surprising variety of animals you can feed on the farm. We saw kangaroos, chickens, donkeys, camels and even lemurs!

Corn Maze

It just wouldn’t be a farm without a good ole fashioned corn maze! This one is three acres full of twists and turns. If you can find your way to about the middle of the maze, there’s a platform you can climb to get your bearings and also catch a great overview of the entire maze. We snapped some gorgeous photos as the sun was beginning to set.

Speaking of photos, we took what was probably the best photo of our adventure in the stalks of the corn maze (big thanks to Hannah for spotting this great photo opp!

If you’re brave enough, the maze turns haunted at night with lots of jump scares and creepy stuff around most every corner. Beware: the Creepy Corn Maze is rated Level 5 – the highest level – on Yesterland Farm’s Scare-o-meter, meaning it’s dimly lit with startles, loud noises, characters and special effects. Enter if you dare!

Haunted Hayride

When the sun went down, we made our way over to the spooky attractions at Spooktacular Nights on the farm. The first one we tried was the Haunted Hayride, which takes you through the dark woods on the outskirts of the farm. The ride is very family friendly and not really scary in my opinion. It had lots of twinkly lights and a fun haunted town area that was really cool. No characters to jump out and spook you in this one, so I definitely recommend it for those like me who can’t handle that kind of thing.

Zombie Paintball

This was the most fun thing we tried during Spooktacular Nights at Yesterland Farm! The experience lets you pummel zombies with glow-in-the-dark paintballs while hunkered down in a WWII bunker. To start off, our group was led by a sergeant to a tent where we watched an instructional video and learned all about our mission to save mankind from the zombie threat.

The paintball guns are mounted in a row along the bunker, and you shoot down into a spooky swamp where the zombies emerge from the multiple war artifacts scattered throughout. If you’re not familiar with paintball guns or how to load them, no worries – the sergeants at the bunker load them for you! No hassle, all you have to worry about is shooting as many zombies as possible. You are on a time limit, but even if you get the larger 32-oz. cup of paintballs, you should have no problem emptying all your ammo by the time it’s all over.

Fireworks

To cap off our fun day at Yesterland Farm, we enjoyed a spectacular fireworks show near the corn maze. The fireworks show is held nightly, and makes for the perfect way to end your adventure to the farm! Pro tip: the best view would be directly to the right of the corn maze near the Pony Rides.

Overall, I would definitely recommend taking the family on a fun fall adventure to Yesterland Farm!

Fall season at Yesterland Farm runs through Nov. 7, with Spooktacular Nights running through Oct. 30. Tickets for Fall Festival admission at the farm are $24.95 if you purchase them online, or $27.95 at the gate. A General Admission ticket also gets you access to Spooktacular Nights which begins at dark and ends at 10 p.m. For more info visit www.yesterlandfarm.com/fall-pricing.
