Rockwall County Commissioners Court recognizes Employees of the Quarter, honors Detention Officer with life saving award

ROCKWALL, TX – October 27, 2021 — The Rockwall County Commissioners Court recognized Employees of the Third Quarter 2021 from the Sheriff’s Office and County Clerk’s office during its regular meeting on Oct. 26.

Rockwall County Sheriff Terry Garrett presented the Sheriff’s Office’s nominee for Employee of the Quarter, Officer Erin Klosterman of the Detention Division. Klosterman has received two Lifesaving Awards – in 2008 and 2018 – and has also been recognized as Officer of the Quarter seven times.

“Officer Klosterman has exhibited great work ethic every day, and has shown great professionalism and willingness to work,” Garrett said. “She is willing to do tasks that are above and beyond her call of duty. She also has been taking on tasks that are normally done by inmate workers. She has exhibited the ability to adapt, to easily change with the constant fluidity of the environment, and we appreciate her dedication to the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office.”

Also recognized was Detention Officer Sarah Pate, who was presented with a Lifesaving Award by Garrett. Pate was conducting a hall check on the female holding cells when she noticed an inmate who had part of a shirt that had been ripped off wrapped around her neck, and the other wrapped around her hands and was pulling the string down. Pate immediately called for assistance and confiscated the string. The inmate was taken to medical and was cleared, with no serious injuries.

“The work that Officer Pate and the others do on a regular basis are to be commended, for all that they do to keep our inmates and our community safe,” Garrett said.

Rockwall County Clerk Jennifer Fogg then recognized a member of her staff – Chief Deputy Joanna Maestas – as Employee of the Quarter. Maestas was instrumental in helping the county move its databases to the cloud through Amazon Web Services, and being the point person on helping solve the issues that came with that.

“Joanna has proven her dedication and to the staff by taking complete ownership of working with Tyler Technologies with regard to the Amazon Web Services upgrade,” Fogg said.

“When we were working on new builds with the computers and the data, Joanna helped fix those gaps and issues that we had,” said Rockwall County Justice of the Peace for Precinct Three Mark Russo. “She takes pride in the work she does for the county, and in working together as a team. You have myself, Commissioner Lee Gilbert and County Clerk Jennifer Fogg all recognizing the work that she does, and I think that says a lot about her and about the kind of people we have working for Rockwall County.”
