ROCKWALL, TX – December 20, 2021 — The Rockwall community stocked the Rockwall ISD Administration Building Gymnasium full of toys for the 45th Annual Helping Hands Toy Drive Distribution on Dec. 11.
Community members generously provided thousands of toys and stocking stuffers for the Helping Hands Toy Drive Collection which ran from Nov. 12th through Dec. 6th. On distribution day, more than 340 individuals with Rockwall Rotary, City of Rockwall, Rockwall Fire Department, Rockwall Police Department, local churches and businesses volunteered their time to help organize the event and guide hundreds of families in need through the gym to pick out their toys.
“For the 45th year, thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of our community, Rockwall County’s first and main toy drive distribution was a huge success again serving over 1,000 local children in need,” said Rockwall County Helping Hands President Jon Bailey. “The importance of giving children the opportunity to play with toys cannot be overstated. We’ve seen time and again how a simple toy can bring relief to a child or an entire family whose life has endured an unexpected turn such as a medical illness or loss of job. We’ve seen how a simple thing like a toy can completely brighten up the life of a child in crisis.
“There are few situations in which a toy can’t bring a measure of joy to otherwise challenging circumstances for families in need. That’s especially true at this time of the year when many of the people we serve are struggling to make it through the holiday season, trying to juggle necessities such as food and housing with additional expenses like gift giving. Thank you to the Rockwall County community for their overwhelming support of the 45th Annual Helping Hands Toy Drive Distribution!”
