Rockwall kids, First United Methodist Church send food packages to the hungry in Honduras

ROCKWALL, TX – Jan. 17, 2022 — On December 12th, 127 kids and adults gathered at First United Methodist Church of Rockwall to give back at Christmas to children far from Rockwall. They packaged vitamin-fortified Kids Against Hunger food bags to be sent to Puerto Lempira Honduras, which is on the remote eastern side of the La Mosquitia coast.

At 25 cents per meal, they packaged over 23,000 rice/soy meals that provides all the essential protein and nutrients a child needs in a day. These meals can help reverse the starvation process and improves the health and mental capacity to learn while in school.

Young and old had fun coming together to eat, enjoy a short devotional and package the meals. Even toddlers colored pictures to include in the boxes of food. Children’s Sunday School classes also collected quarters, the cost of one meal, for each day they completed an activity on their Advent Calendar.

In addition, money for baby formula was sent to nourish the smallest ones. There will be additional opportunities for meal packaging in 2022 and the whole community is invited to participate.
