Heath, Texas (April 18, 2023) – A record number of runners, walkers and their supporting family and friends turned out for the 2023 Heart of Heath 5k and One-Mile Family Run.
There were 391 registrants, including Joseph Uc of Rockwall, who took 1st Place in the 5k with a 16:37 time. The 1st Place Male Master was once again Dwain McDuffie of West Monroe, with a 17:39 time.
The Overall Female 5k winner was Sadie Cotter of Argyle, at 19:28, and the 1st Place Female Master was Tina Marshall of Rockwall at 22:48.
Fun Fact: Heath Councilmember Paul Ruffo came in first place in his age bracket with a time of 22:11; eclipsed slightly by his son, Paul Thomas Ruffo, also first in his age category of 15-19 with a time of 21:42
The youngest winners of the day were the Top 3 Boys and Top 3 Girls in the 1-Mile Family Run. Taking 1st Place among the girls was Chandler Nailey, 12, Heath; 2nd Place Brooklyn Bass, 10, Heath; and 3rd Place was Amelia Gonzales, 10, Rockwall.
The 1st Place boy was Carter Megill, 8, Heath; 2nd Place was Thomas Hendrickson, 12, Rockwall; and 3rd Place was Ryker Megill, 8, Heath.
The event also included a Runners’ Warm Up and tug of war competitions presented by Amy Hall of Camp Gladiator, a free stop at The Stretch Zone, complimentary refreshments from Tom Thumb and Café Hope Coffee, giant games like Checkers and Chess, and the Easter Bunny!
