Rockwall, TX (April 20, 2023) – Lemonade Day is fast approaching! No, this isn’t a Tik Tok trend or the latest reality show. Lemonade Day is a program with the goal of launching 50 new Rockwall area businesses in one day!
To achieve this goal the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce secured support from local businesses to help encourage, educate, and support these new entrepreneurs. There’s one very important detail – all of the entrepreneurs are young people from younger elementary ages to teenagers! That’s right, Lemonade Day has long term benefits and far-reaching success stories in teaching young people the finer details of developing a business plan.
As the name implies, each entrepreneur sets up their own Lemonade stand but with more attention to a business model than your traditional stand. To make their product stand out, creativity is encouraged with unique colors, flavors and/or other enhancements.
Young entrepreneurs do the work supported by a curriculum that has been used since the program’s inception in 2007. They will build their stands, budget and purchase supplies, market and total their proceeds. Guess what – the program encourages giving back to the community as these business owners are encouraged to share a little of their proceeds with a favorite charitable organization! Not only do they earn a little and share a little, but the experience also help prepares them for future jobs, class assignments and more!
How can the community support Lemonade Day’s young entrepreneurs? Simple, make a purchase. Rockwall’s Lemonade Day booths will be set up on May 6 in neighborhoods, businesses and parks around the Rockwall, Fate, McLendon Chisholm and Heath area including San Jacinto Plaza for the Rockwall Farmer’s Market kick off, JER Chilton YMCA, Tom Thumb (Rockwall), Independent Financial, The Shores Clubhouse and more. Show up to your nearest lemonade stand on May 6 to support young business owners of the future. A full list of booths and locations can be found on the event website at www.lemonadeday.org/rockwall-area/activities
When Lemonade Day concludes, the hope is that those who participated will have learned many lessons and strengthened their confidence, public speaking, organizational and critical thinking skills. Perhaps some of these entrepreneurs will return later as business owners in our community. Those are the greatest rewards but awards for Best Tasting Lemonade, Best Stand and Entrepreneur of the Year will be announced at a Lemonpalooza celebration on May 15.
