Rockwall Meals on Wheels and North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging offer workshop “Aging Process and Dementia Risk”

Rockwall, TX (June  27, 2023) – Dementia is a thief, and its timing is unrelenting. It threatens the dignity and independence of those we love dearly and renders the caregiver and family utterly helpless in understanding what is going on and how to best remedy an unfamiliar and unwelcome situation. Caught in the middle of the caregiver and this disease is a person who was once independent, resourceful, and confident. This once capable person still needs love and understanding, especially now.

Memory issues are scary and concerning. Is it simply “old age,” or is something more serious at play? How and when do you know the difference, and what are the resources to prevent, diagnose or cope with it?  Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County (MOWSS) partners with the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging to provide caregiver support to guide caregivers and seniors through resources to prevent, diagnose, and address memory-related illnesses such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Feeling vulnerable is a trait that both caregivers and those experiencing symptoms encounter. Fear is never a good position to try and address solutions. Preparedness through information and knowledge helps everyone react and respond with confidence and reduces the vulnerability factor.  Contacting MOWSS is the first step towards seeking help and planning for the caregiver’s needs and those of the person(s) they care for in all instances; preserving independence, dignity, and safety for our seniors and disabled is our number one goal.

The link below offers a free workshop through Family Caregivers Online on July 7 at noon titled “Aging Process and Dementia Risk.” Part 1 of Aging with Intellectual Disabilities: Understanding the Aging Process, Dementia Risk, and How to Get an Accurate Diagnosis workshop series.
