DALLAS, TEXAS (June 16, 2023) – Every year, the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas has taken part in spotlighting dads who are making a difference. Through a detailed nomination process, 18 individuals are chosen to represent their branch based on evaluations from Y leaders who examine a father’s ability to demonstrate the organization’s character values of: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility within the Y, or in their community.
Research shows that father involvement leads to better emotional, academic, social, and behavioral outcomes for children and teens, including better stress management.
To give dads a day to remember, the Father of the Year award ceremony was held at TopGolf with an evening dinner with family and Y staff, and complimentary tickets from the Dallas Wings basketball team.
“What a lot of people don’t know about Father’s Day is that it began at the YMCA,” said Curt Hazelbaker, President & CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. “The first was held more than 100 years ago at the Spokane Y to honor local fathers and recognize their contributions to their families. This celebration is more than just a tradition, it’s a way for us to show our members that we appreciate them.”
