District Attorney Elected as VP of National Prosecutors’ Association

Rockwall, TX (July 12, 2023) – Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper was elected as a Vice President of the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) this past weekend in Nashville, Tennessee.

NDAA is the oldest and largest national organization representing state and local prosecutors in the entire country.  It is recognized as a leading authority for media, academia, government, and community leaders and provides comprehensive legal education and resources to prosecutors, legislators, and criminal justice agencies across the United States.

Culpepper, elected as the Rockwall County Criminal District Attorney in 2008, was the first woman to take office as a District Attorney in the history of North Texas.  She is a past President of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association and currently serves on the Boards of the Texas Bar Foundation, the Texas Bar College, and State Bar of Texas.  She was named the “Texas Prosecutor of the Year” in 2021.

“I am humbled to have been elected by my colleagues across America,” said Culpepper.  “I take very seriously the responsibility of being a prosecutor and the importance of prosecutorial integrity, public trust, and collaboration in a commitment to see that justice is done.  I look forward to working with my peers to be a strong voice for prosecutors who want to enforce the law and do the right thing.”

Culpepper has served as the Chair of the State Bar Criminal Justice Section and the Professionalism Committee and on state leadership teams combatting family violence, human trafficking, and child abuse. Locally, she is the co-founder of the Rockwall County Children’s Advocacy Center and the North Texas Regional Veterans Court.

Culpepper has been named by Texas Monthly as a “Texas Super Lawyer”; by D Magazine as one of the “Best Lawyers in Dallas”; and by Forbes SkyRadio as one of “America’s Most Influential Women.”   In 2022, she was chosen by the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research’s City Journal as one of “The Five Best Prosecutors in America”.  She is married to former Rockwall Mayor Jim Pruitt, and they have one daughter in Rockwall schools.
