Rockwall, TX (July 13, 2023) – This year Rockwall’s largest and most prestigious private lesson music school, the Rockwall School of Music, celebrates 27 years in business. Founded by long time Rockwall resident, Heather Cullins, in 1996, RSM was sold to its current owners, Russ and Karen Porter in 2004.
Regarding the inception of the school Porter says:
“I had a dream of being the director for a school of music 25 years before that dream became reality. In God’s timing, the opportunity to own a music school coincided with some changes in my professional life. Since 2004, I’ feel like I’ve been living my dream daily!’
The school’s first commercial location was in a small space located on the square in downtown Rockwall. RSM relocated in various lease spaces for several years before purchasing land on Mims Road. RSM moved to a new, state-of-the-art building in 2019. The current location is 1920 Mims Road, Rockwall.
What started with limited number of teachers and types of lessons, now offers a really diverse group of instrument lessons as well as various types of voice lessons. Lessons are now offered all seven days of the week for piano, guitar, voice, bass, drums, ukulele, violin, viola, cello and more. It’s the largest private music school in north central Texas and growing. RSM has been voted Best Music Lessons/Studio year after year by the readers of the Lakeside Living Magazine.
The school has expanded to over 850 students, six office staff members and over 50 private lesson music teachers.
“As Rockwall has grown, so has the Rockwall School of Music, said Porter. When asked what makes RSM so unique, Porter said, ‘it’s a safe place for individuals of all ages to find acceptance and to pursue their musical passion.’
“Rockwall School of Music has grown exponentially over its 27 year history. Since moving to our permanent location on Mims Road, enrollment has almost doubled to almost 850 students’, said Porter. ‘I want to thank our incredibly talented teachers, our customer-focused office staff, and most importantly our students and their parents’, said Porter. I’ve always said without our students, there is no RSM, so a big thanks to everyone for making us the largest and most award-winning music school in the area and one of the top 10 of the United States!”
RSM alumni have graduated and become worship pastors, choir/band or orchestra directors, professional business owners and two have even joined our teaching staff after completing their music degree in college.
