Rockwall County’s Back to School Fair: A resounding success investing over $100k into our community

Rockwall, TX (August 2, 2023) – Rockwall County Helping Hands takes immense pride in announcing the overwhelming success of its recent Back to School Bash, held last Saturday in collaboration with First Methodist Church “Shoes for Kids” thanks to your support.  This event was an exceptional display of compassion, collaboration, and community spirit, with a profound impact on underserved local families in need. Through the generous efforts of hundreds of volunteers and partners, the fair invested over $100,000 back into our community, providing essential resources and services to prepare over 1,500 children for the upcoming school year.

The Back to School Bash, now in its 47th year, has become a symbol of unity and solidarity within the Rockwall community. This year’s event was no exception, witnessing an extraordinary turnout of enthusiastic volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to serve those in need. The collective effort of these selfless individuals amplified the event’s impact and allowed it to extend its reach even further.

The event served as a one-stop shop for families facing economic challenges, providing much-needed school supplies, backpacks, and tennis shoes to equip students for academic success. Additionally, in recognition of the pressing healthcare needs of our underserved population, the event offered free vaccines and sports physical exams by the Health Center of Helping Hands, and mammograms by Texas Health Rockwall, fostering a culture of proactive well-being within the community.

“We are immensely proud to have hosted the Back to School Bash for another successful year,” said Tarren Oswald, Director of Assistance & Referral for Helping Hands. “Our agency and community came together in a remarkable way to ensure that local children and families in need receive the support and resources necessary for a positive start to the school year. The impact of this event goes beyond the immediate contributions – it is a testament to the power of unity and caring for our neighbors.”

The collaborative nature of this event is what sets it apart from others, with numerous local businesses, organizations, and individuals contributing to the cause. Their generous donations and contributions enabled the agency to surpass its fundraising goals, making it possible to reach an unprecedented level of support for those who need it most.

Helping Hands extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors, partners, Sheriff’s Posse and volunteers who selflessly devoted their time, resources, and expertise. Their dedication to the community’s well-being has made a significant difference in the lives of countless children and families.
