Rockwall Meals on Wheels and North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging to offer free, online Hospice 101 workshop

Rockwall, TX (August 24, 2023) – Hospice Care can paint a picture that is different for many. Is it confirmation of the end? Is it too soon? Is it a relief? Am I ready? Am I prepared? Do I really understand what Hospice means? Do my loved ones understand? Who can I talk to?

A feeling of helplessness is prevalent when facing end of life decisions. Today, hospice care is more about dignity and control and empowering the person and their caregivers with options and peace of mind. Contacting Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County (MOWSS) is the first step towards seeking help and planning for the caregiver’s needs and those of the person(s) they care for in all instances; preserving independence, dignity, and safety for our seniors and disabled is our number one goal.

As a caregiver, it is common to feel scared, frustrated, uncertain and sad when faced with the decision to embrace hospice care for a loved one. Hospice care focuses on the care, comfort, and quality of life of a person with a serious illness who is approaching the end of life. At some point, it may not be possible to cure a serious illness, or a patient may choose not to undergo certain treatments. Hospice is designed for this situation. Having the knowledge and resources prior to facing these situations is powerful and ensures confidence when the conversations occur. Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County (MOWSS) partners with the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging to provide caregiver support to guide caregivers and seniors through all stages of life and preparation to relieve anxiety.
