Rowlett, TX (August 31, 2023) – As you drive around Rowlett, you may have seen the various public art installations at the fire stations, Community Centre, or in a park. The Rowlett Arts & Humanities Commission works with City staff and the City Council to look for ways that public art can add beauty to the Rowlett landscape. The Commission is excited to invite everyone to the unveiling of its newest piece of public art on September 9!
Located at Fire Station 2 (8602 Schrade Road), the core of the sculpture is the twin towers sitting on a pentagon-based pedestal. Each tower has a bronze cast firefighter sitting atop. One to represent Rowlett firefighters, while the other symbolizes the firefighters of New Your City. While it is already an impressive project – what makes this installation even more special is that it was designed by a Rowlett artist – Jon Millet. Jon recently posted what inspired his interest in this project, “I signed on as a tribute to my own son, Marshall, who loves all things related to this honorable profession. Although he has special needs, he is like minded in both spirit and in character.”
The Commission invites the public to be a part of this sculpture’s unveiling on September 9th at 10:30 am.
