Updated information on double fatality collision on eastbound IH30 in Royse City

Royse City, TX (August 11, 2023) – On Monday, August 7, 2023, at 8:27 am, the Royse City Police Department and the Royse City Fire Department responded to a major accident on IH30 Eastbound at FM 35. An 18-Wheeler traveling westbound crossed over onto the eastbound side of IH30 and collided with three passenger cars. One of the passenger cars that was struck, caught fire and when first responders arrived, two persons were found deceased in the burnt vehicle.

The collision is still under investigation but investigators have determined that a tire failure on the semi-truck’s left front steering axle is what caused the driver of the 18-wheeler to lose control while traveling in the left lane of westbound IH30. The 18-wheeler then crossed into the grassy center median, broke through a cable barrier and entered into eastbound lanes of traffic. On Friday, August 11, 2023, the Dallas County Medical Examiner Office was able to positively identify the persons killed in the collision as Christopher Scott Talley, a 35-year-old male and Shannon Nickole Crawford, a 36-year-old female. Christopher and Shannon were married, had two children and lived in Greenville, TX.

There were no other injuries in the collision. The driver of the 18-wheeler was a 51-year-old female from Pahrump, Nevada and the driver is cooperating with the investigation. The collision remains under investigation by the Royse City Police Department Traffic Collision Unit.
