Rockwall, TX (September 14, 2023) – The 17th Annual Helping Hands Golf Tournament, held on September 8th, 2023, was a resounding success, bringing together golf enthusiasts and supporters of a great cause. Hosted at Buffalo Creek Golf Club, this year’s tournament featured an exciting Ryder Cup format, pitting the Black Team against the Blue Team in a competitive showdown.
The Helping Hands Golf Tournament, a highly anticipated event for golfers in the community, is known for its commitment to making a difference. This year’s tournament not only lived up to its reputation but exceeded expectations. With 64 players participating, the tournament showcased the spirit of unity and philanthropy, bringing together individuals and businesses dedicated to supporting the mission of Helping Hands, striving to ensure that no one in Rockwall County goes to bed hungry, without a roof overhead, or is deprived of needed medical care.
Excitement for the tournament began the week before when a happy hour was held at X-Golf Rockwall from 4:30pm-7:00pm. All registered players were able to come to a rented-out space where they could compete in a longest drive contest and play virtually on different golf courses from around the world. Additionally, this is where players drew their team sides and were given a Callaway polo, each color corresponding to their team colors, with the tournament’s logo on the sleeve.
Ultimately, it was the Black Team that emerged victorious, clinching the overall win for the tournament. Their exceptional performance secured their spot as the winners of the tournament with the Black team scoring an 11 ½ to the blue teams 3 ½ wins.
Volunteers, staff, and players alike agree that this year’s tournament was by far the best. With new features including a partnership with Stretch Zone, Baker’s Ribs BBQ, and Drip Mode IV Therapy, the players were able to relax and refuel after a day spent in the sun. The silent auction was a hit and prizes were given out to the players who got the closest to the pin, closest to the squiggle line, and longest drive. Winners include Chris Lanzillo, who won the TV donating it back to Helping Hands, and Shawn Valk Jr. who won the trip to Las Vegas. Finally, Lake June Scrap Metals was the highest fundraising team bringing in $6,000 to support the mission of Helping Hands.
The tournament’s success would not have been possible without the generous support of its sponsors, including Alliance Bank, X-Golf, American National Bank, Doug Brown, Adventure Boat & RV Storage, Farmer’s Electric Cooperative, Fielding Law, Green Electronic Solutions, Whataburger of Mesquite, Ebby Halliday Relator Lacy Deckard, Integrity Mortgage, State Representative Justin Holland, K&S Insurance, Lake June Scrap Metals, LIV Group Inc., Providence Title, Rod Holland, AmCap Home Loans- The William Branch Group, Woody Farm and Resources, the Law Office Susan Satterwhite, My Computer Guy, Rhonda Holloway, Rockwall Breakfast Rotary, Zanata, Hanby Insurance, The Valk Family, Rockwall County Abstract & Title Company, Heath Salon & Spa, AJ Bedford Group , Leichty & McGinnis LLP.
