Rockwall County Helping Hands Celebrates Record-Breaking Success in 47th Annual Christmas Toy Drive, Bringing Joy to 1,300+ Children Across the County

Rockwall, TX (December 9, 2023) – Rockwall County Helping Hands 47th Annual Christmas Toy Drive was a huge success, marking a historic milestone in community support and generosity. This year’s initiative, held on Saturday, December 9th 2023, witnessed an outpouring of compassion as 1,330 children between the ages of 0 and 18 were embraced by the spirit of giving across Rockwall County.

“The Toy Drive is without a doubt my favorite event of the year and we are so excited to serve and help make the holidays a magical time for these families” said Tarren Oswald, Director of Assistance and Referral. “We love seeing how the community comes together during the holidays to make a difference in the lives of so many of their neighbors in need.”

The Toy Drive, a cherished tradition for the organization, has consistently grown in scale and impact, and this year proved to be the largest yet. The overwhelming response from the community reflects the deep commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors in crisis during the holiday season. “The numbers we serve reflects how great the need is in our community currently,” said Oswald. “And how important it is that we continue to partner with the generous businesses and individuals in our community.”

Helping Hands board member, Jennifer Beasley, was onsite volunteering with Texas Pearl Chapter of National Charity League, and 12 mother/daughter pairs who provided breakfast and assisted with stocking stuffer distribution. Speaking to the significance of the event, Beasley spoke to the importance of community service adding, “The National Charity League encourages leadership, a heart for serving, and making a difference wherever God sends them.” Particularly noteworthy is the significant demand among teenagers, with 410 individuals registering to receive gift cards and each were able to get $100 worth. The organization anticipates continued success in the coming years as it strives to meet the evolving challenges faced by families in the community. Carmen expressed her appreciation for the annual event and all who give because it really makes a difference to them. “They help me a lot because prices are so high and that makes Christmas really hard” said Carmen. “I have 2 children and this will make their Christmas much better.” In addition to the toy distribution, Helping Hands will be handing out 15,000 pounds of food boxes and snacks through a partnership with North Texas Food Bank!

As we celebrate the holiday season, Rockwall County Helping Hands remains committed to its mission of providing crucial support and spreading joy to those in need.
