Local Scout Completes Eagle Scout Project for Big Cat

Wylie, TX (December 17, 2024) – Service to others does not always have to mean serving people! When Amelia King was looking for a project for her Eagle Scout Award, she had cats in mind. BIG CATS! She had visited the sanctuary once before with her family and loved seeing the cats as well as respected what In-Sync does to give these cats a good home. The Eagle Scout Award is the highest award that can be earned as a Scout.

Amelia is a founding member of Scouts BSA Troop 1869, Circle 10 Council, East Trinity Trails District based in Wylie, Texas. Troop 1869 is an all-girls Boy Scout troop which began in 2020. Amelia is 14 years old and is the third in her troop to complete her Eagle project.

After choosing In-Sync Exotics, home to over seventy big cats, Amelia, planned, coordinated, and fundraised to update our entrance ramp making our Visitors Center and restroom accessible to all guests.

Amelia said “Our troop is very close-knit, and we encourage each other’s progress. We enjoy working on requirements and merit badges together.” Amelia also said that “taking on this project was challenging, but it taught me a lot about leadership, organization, and project management. Balancing an Eagle Scout Project with school, band, National Junior Honor Society, and other obligations has helped me better my time management. I improved my communication skills and my construction knowledge. I also had to adapt and be flexible when the project was rained out on the original date. Overall, the project taught me so many things, and I am so glad I was able to do this for In-Sync Exotics!”

“It was a pleasure working with Amelia. We are incredibly grateful and honored that she selected In-Sync for her Eagle Scout project. Since the completion of the new ramp, we have received numerous compliments on her work and the positive impact on our visitor’s experience” says board member and Director of Education, Laura Czekala
