Master Gardeners Dig In to 2024

 

Rockwall, TX (February 10, 2024) – The Rockwall County Master Gardeners kicked off the new year January 10, 2024, by installing new officers and recognizing volunteer hours.  County Agent Todd Williams recognized outgoing officers for their service the previous year.  These included: Linsley Srygley, President, Michele Campbell, Vice President, Judy Callicoatt, Treasurer, Cathy Grinstead, Secretary, and Sarah Lawson, Past President.

Installation of officers for 2024 were then held.  We are pleased to announce this year’s officer team:

Additionally, the 2022 interns that met the requirement of 72 service hours earned their official status as a certified Master Gardener.  Our newest certified members include: Linda Gates, Sherry Gillespie, Amy Gibbs, Lisa Johnson, Tricia Lespreance, Elenor Mason, Stan Smith, Rhonda Smith, Lisa Walker, Mike Ward, Caitlyn Williams, Summer Winkler

Master Gardeners contributed a value of $168, 953 in volunteer service to the county in 2023  

On January 23, the Master Gardeners were recognized at the Rockwall County Commissioners Court for more than 5313 hours of volunteer service to the County of Rockwall under the supervision of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.  The current value of volunteer service is valued at $31.80 per hour by independent sector.  County Agent Todd Williams, with Rockwall County Master Gardeners, presented a Mock Check to the Commissioners Court valued at $168, 953 for total volunteer service benefit to the County by the Master Gardeners in 2023.   These hours are earned by a variety of service opportunities including Farmers Market, Master Gardener hotline, EnviroSmart newsletter, plant sale.  This year has seen an increase in educational class opportunities for the public collaborating with the Rockwall County Library, as well as cities within the county.  There are many plans for this to increase in 2024. Rockwall County Master Gardeners Association is a non-profit, educational, and charitable 501(C)3 association volunteering in collaboration with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. The purpose of our volunteer program is to support community projects related to horticulture and share research-based gardening practices through workshops, classes, news articles, and local school and youth programs.

Master Gardeners are available in person on Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office. Stop by 915 Whitmore Dr., Suite B and a Rockwall County Master Gardener will be on hand to research questions and provide gardening information.

Additionally, Master Gardeners are now available 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at the Rockwall County Library.
