Tribute to Travis’ famous Alamo letter set for Feb 24 at Rockwall County Courthouse

Rockwall, TX (February 8, 2024) – The Rockwall County Commissioner’s Court invites the community to a special presentation on February 24, 2024 at 10am in Liberty Hall at the County Courthouse located at 1111 E. Yellowjacket Lane, Rockwall, Texas, 75087. There will be a dedication of a bronze plaque in remembrance of the letter written by William Barret Travis from the Alamo on February 24, 1836. The plaque represents the historic 220-word letter Travis wrote seeking reinforcements and supplies as the mission was being besieged by Mexican forces.

We hope to see the community come together to remember the sacrifice of these brave men and honor the generations of Texans that have answered the call to defend liberty as well.

The Rockwall County Commissioner’s Court and the Alamo Letter Society encourage anyone in the community to join us for this timely and memorable dedication.

I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism, and everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid with all dispatch.…Victory or Death!”

William B. Travis, Lt. Col. Comdt.
