Northeast Texas Small Acreage and New Landowner Conference set for May 31

Rockwall, TX (May 9, 2024) – The Northeast Texas Small Acreage and New Landowner Conference will be held May 31, 2024 from 8am-5pm at Collin College–Farmersville.

The Northeast Texas Small Acreage and New Landowner Conference is a collaboration  of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Collin College in response to the quickly changing dynamics of the demographic landscape across the outskirts of the Dallas Metropolitan area. Residents are flooding into traditionally rural communities and country living wanting a piece of the American dream but lacking the skills and knowledge to transition to the rural experience.  The conference sheds light into this lifestyle and assists participants with the scientific and practical knowledge to take steps not only survive but thrive in this new environment.

This conference will also appeal to existing small landowners looking to discover the latest agriculture techniques.

There will be 3 tracks you can choose from to attend.  Attendants are welcome to participate in one track throughout the conference or crisscross tracks as desired.

Track 1 – Landowner  101/Land Trends includes the topics:

Texas Land Trends; What to do with Your Land; Demystifying Ag/Wildlife Property Tax Valuation; Farm Infrastructure;  Insurance Liability and Farm Credit Lending

As well as these resources:

Texas Department of Agriculture; Natural Resource Conservation Service; Farm Service Agency; Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service

Track 2 – Farm/Ranch Operations:

Managing Invasive Pant Species; Using Regenerative Grazing to Reduce Weed Pressure in Pastures; Pesticide Laws & Regulations; Pond Weed Control and Feral Trapping

As well as Texas Animal Health Commission and Livestock Traceability

This track includes 5 Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) for Pesticide License Holders. 

Track 3 – Crops & Livestock:

Earth-Kind® Soil Management; In Ground Crop Production; Principles of Native Habitat Management; Hydroponics Demo; Animal Health Management; Understanding Cottage Laws for Selling Food

This event also includes an industry trade show and door prizes.  The registration deadline is May 17, and the cost is $40 per person which includes lunch and all course materials.
