Rockwall, TX (August 1, 2024) – The sandwich generation is named so because it is effectively “sandwiched” between the obligation to care for their aging parents—who may be ill, unable to perform various tasks, or in need of financial support—and children, who require financial, physical, and emotional support.
The demands of caring and making decisions for your children and aging parents can be challenging emotionally and physically. Often, conversations about finances have not taken place, which can cause strain as often family homes and living situations are in flux. Family bonds and relationships among siblings and extended family are not always one hundred percent intact, which is another stressor. Cumulatively, this can present a giant stress ball of nerves for the one(s) stuck in the middle as decisions are constantly presented, second-guessed, and roles are changing. Demands on one’s schedule for family members who can no longer drive along with children’s schedules do not always align. Work schedules can only be so forgiving before something or someone breaks, Hence, the sandwich generation.
Caregiving for a family member can be a challenging journey, both for the person(s) being cared for and the person(s) giving care. However, this journey can be made more manageable with the proper support. Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County (MOWSS) is here to partner with you. We collaborate with the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging to provide caregiver support, guide caregivers and seniors through all stages of life and preparation and offer a lifeline to relieve anxiety.
Attend the 12th annual Rockwall Cares Caregiver Conference, hosted by Meals on Wheels Senior Services on Thursday, September 19th, to hear speakers and visit vendors related to this difficult topic. Rest Haven and Anchor of Hope Hospice are sponsors for the conference. It is free to attendees; please register at Register for Conference here.
