Rockwall Youth Advisory Council accepting applications for upcoming year

Rockwall, TX (August 8, 2024) – The City of Rockwall is accepting applications for students who wish to be considered for the 2024-2025 Rockwall Youth Advisory Council (YAC). The City Council will fill up to five vacant seats on the YAC for this school year. Applicants should be freshmen through seniors and should preferably reside within the city limits of Rockwall.

The purpose of Rockwall’s YAC is to provide participation for local youth in municipal government and to teach students about local government. The Rockwall YAC provides opportunities for positive community impact through organized participation in various city-sponsored activities and events. YAC students may also be involved in initiatives that benefit local youth.

At least one letter of recommendation is required, and applications should be submitted no later than Sunday evening, August 25. Letters of recommendation should either be uploaded along with the application submission online or else e-mailed to KTeague@Rockwall.com.

Interviews will be scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 5 with appointment selections being made by the Rockwall City Council at its Monday, Sept.16 meeting. Students who apply are asked to make themselves available after school on Thursday, Sept. 5 for a brief (10 min.) interview at Rockwall City Hall. It should be noted that regular monthly meetings of the YAC typically occur every first Thursday at 6:00 p.m. during the school year. Before applying, applicants should ensure their schedule permits time to regularly attend monthly meetings and YAC-related activities.
