Royse City, TX (September 6, 2024) – The Royse City Police Department has detained a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with the shooting death of Alexander Villegas that occurred on August 30,2024 at a residence in Royse City. Initial statements at the scene indicated that the death was a result of an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound; however; physical evidence did not support what was first reported.
Detectives with the Royse City Police Department conducted a follow up investigation which included serving a search warrant at the residence where the shooting took place and re-interviewing three juveniles who were present at the scene. It is now alleged that a 16-year-old friend of the victim was negligently handling a firearm when the weapon fired and struck Alexander Villegas. The shooting is still believed to be accidental but the juvenile, whose identity is being withheld, has been detained and charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide, a State Jail Felony.
