Dallas, TX (October 9, 2024)—Cars for Kids and the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas will hold a presentation on Thursday, October 10th, to unveil a wrapped van that Cars for Kids has donated to the Dallas YMCA. The donation will support one of the Y’s signature programs: Safety Around Water, an initiative geared at preventing childhood drowning.
The presentation will take place at a Safety Around Water program site and will feature a scavenger hunt for the children present. The Y’s Safety Around Water program is funded by donations from Cars for Kids and encompasses water safety education by providing life-saving water skills free of charge to participants at neighborhood apartment complexes, schools, and other community sites. The donated van will be utilized to transport YMCA staff and their equipment to sites across North Texas.
“Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4, which is why water safety education is so critical. In 2024, the YMCA of Dallas taught Safety Around Water to over 7,000 children across North Texas,” said Jennifer Pewitt, Associate Vice President of Aquatics, YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas.
“Our teams travel thousands of miles each year to bring life-saving lessons directly to communities. The generous van donation from Cars for Kids is truly transformational for our program, as transportation is essential to reaching the children who need us most. This support will allow us to continue providing water safety education year-round, wherever it’s needed.”
