Rockwall, TX (January 13, 2025) – Local businessman and community supporter Richard W. Henson announced today that he will run for Place 1 on the Rockwall City Council in the May 3 general election.
Led by his priorities of faith, family and community, Henson said “I am running for City Council because I have concerns about the congestion, traffic, infrastructure and effects on property owners in Rockwall due to rapid growth. I believe our current Comprehensive Plan must be immediately addressed for the purposes of lowering the density calculation guidelines for development, along with a deliberate focus on infrastructure, as we build out our city.” After years of helping others in their efforts to win local elections, Henson has chosen to take on this new challenge to make Rockwall better through appropriate growth and development and protecting citizens’ property rights.
Henson continued, “I align with our local officials and County Commissioners that believe we must grow wisely. We must learn from the successes and the mistakes we have seen other cities make. For example, Mesquite & Garland are no longer the suburbs they once were. I have a goal to avoid the mistakes these cities and other cities have made.”
As a Professional Landman in the oil & gas industry, Henson has developed an acute understanding of spatial land mapping, allocations and logistics associated to development of property that will provide valuable insight in land use policy within the city. He has initiated and implemented multiple complex land and road agreements and understands how to maximize value for our city within these types of contracts. “It is time we hold developers to the highest standard. As a concerned citizen, I have engaged at P&Z meetings and City Council meetings and already influenced density reductions in recent developments,” Henson said.
Richard served on the Board of Trustees for Heritage Christian Academy from 2012 through 2017 and led a highly successful capital campaign to add additional building space for classrooms and administration. Richard has been married to his wife, Sharon for 30 years and they have two sons and one granddaughter – Joshua and fiancé Allison, and Jace and Eazhel, who have one daughter. He is a Christ follower who believes in helping others and doing the best for our community. He and Sharon attend Lakeshore Church in Rockwall.
