Rockwall, TX-Feb. 3, 2024 – The Rockwall County Commissioner’s Court, led by Commissioner John Stacy, hosted a three-county educational session on Soil and Water Conservation Lakes. This event brought together elected and appointed officials, city staff members, and citizens from Rockwall, Kaufman, and Van Zandt Counties.
The speakers included Owen Cantrell, District Technician for the Kaufman-Van Zandt-Rockwall Soil and Water Conservation District; Mark Northcut, Natural Resource Manager at USDA-NRCS Texas; Steve Bednarz, Program Administrator/Engineer at the Texas State Soil & Water Conservation Board; and Trina Lancaster, an engineer with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The discussion focused on the urban development of former farmland and the associated challenges of surface water runoff and soil erosion. The session lasted for three hours, and although each county faces its unique challenges, this marked the first step towards collaboration among the three counties in addressing these development-related issues.
