Rockwall, TX (March 7, 2025) – Eight Dr. Gene Burton College and Career Academy fashion design students placed in the Top 5 at the Technology Student Association (TSA) Fashion Design competition, including three who have advanced to the state competition.
All eight students were placed within the Top 5 in the fashion design category in their region. The fashion design students were tasked with creating a marching band uniform with an emphasis on earth, wind, fire, and water for this year’s competition theme. The students demonstrated expertise in fashion design principles by creating wearable garments, garment patterns, and a detailed documentation portfolio. Students prepare five hand sketches and five digital sketches, theme inspiration, 5-minute speech, and detailed information about their garments. Semifinalist teams present their garment designs worn by team models to discuss the design process with evaluators and an opportunity to respond to interview questions.
Congratulations to this talented group of young designers. Peyton Horne, Meagan Mercado, and Sarah Riggs placed first in their category and will advance to the state TSA competition, which will be held in Ft. Worth, Texas, on April 3-5. The team of Ava Salazar and Miguel Espinoza came in 4th, just missing a spot in the state competition. The team consisting of Ana Keiser, SJ Crowell, and Perla Ramos came in 5th place as well. Mrs. Reneé Aubé is their teacher and advisor for the Texas Technology Student Association of Texas.
