Rockwall, TX (May 12, 2025) – On Saturday, May 10, 2025, the Rockwall High School Robotics team, Full Metal Jackets (FMJ) FRC 1296, gathered along State Highway 66 for a community clean-up day on a newly adopted stretch of highway.
The highway adoption project, initiated by FMJ team member Phoebe Ishmael, serves to further the team’s mission to make a difference beyond the robotics lab. Taking the lead in submitting their application for TXDOT’s Adopt-a-Highway program, Phoebe worked passionately to research, apply, and follow up on program requirements. Finally, after many months of work, the FMJ team received notice of their successful application for adoption.
Signs identifying Full Metal Jackets commitment to the Adopt-A-Highway program were recently installed on a two-mile stretch of Hwy 66 through Fate, from FM 3549 to FM 551.
To mark the event, team members took to the street armed with bags and a desire to lead the way in community service. With a willing spirit and sense of responsibility they scoured the distance collecting trash of all types, sizes, and age. At the conclusion, six large bags were stuffed, revealing a more beautiful and appealing drive for those who travel along SH 66!
Full Metal Jackets not only left SH 66 cleaner but they also reinforced the positive community impact that comes from teamwork, a mission, and inspired young leaders right here in Rockwall, Texas.
