Emergency Sewer Main Break Update from the City of McLendon-Chisholm

McLendon-Chisholm, TX (July 1, 2025) – On June 17, 2025, City of McLendon-Chisholm Code Enforcement personnel responded to reports of a strong odor near City Hall. Upon investigation, staff discovered water bubbling in a roadside ditch, prompting an immediate response.

City staff, in coordination with the McLendon-Chisholm Fire Department, quickly worked to stop the flow and repair the broken sewer main.

On June 23, 2025, a large-scale treatment operation was conducted, extending from the site of the break to the Brushy Creek area near Klutts Road. A biological treatment product, Micro-Bac, was applied to neutralize harmful bacteria released by the spill. Approximately 60,000 gallons of sewage had entered the creek system due to the pipe failure.

Phase Two of the remediation process is scheduled to begin on July 3, 2025. This phase will include adjustments to the already treated zones and expanded spray treatments to saturate the affected area with Micro-Bac. Treatment trucks will be staged at City Hall and the McLendon-Chisholm Fire Station. A temporary dam will also be constructed to create a backfill zone, allowing for a controlled flush of the treatment into the impacted creek area.

Phase Three, planned for the following week, will involve final spot treatments and the application of additional beneficial bacteria. Environmental samples will be collected throughout the process. All documentation and lab results will be submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) by Bio-Remedy and Enviroserv, our environmental services partners.

The City continues to coordinate and provide regular updates to the County Judge, County Commissioners, Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management (RCOEM), and all other stakeholders involved in the cleanup effort.
