Rockwall, TX (August 4, 2025) – Do you know a student who wants to make a difference, develop leadership skills, and learn how local government really works? The City of Rockwall is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 Youth Advisory Council (YAC) – a unique opportunity for high school students to get directly involved in their community.
YAC empowers students to participate in municipal government, gain hands-on experience with City departments, and lead youth-focused initiatives throughout the year. From volunteering at community events and supporting local nonprofits to serving as jurors in Royse City’s Teen Court and shadowing elected officials, YAC members play an active role in civic life.

Eligible applicants must be entering grades 9-12 and should preferably live within the city limits of Rockwall. YAC members attend standard, monthly meetings throughout the school year, typically on the first Thursday at 6:00 p.m., and may also have one additional event scheduled during certain months. Because spots are limited and the City typically receives a high number of applications, students selected to serve must be prepared to fully commit to attending meetings and participating consistently throughout the year.
To apply, students must submit an online application with at least one letter of recommendation at https://www.rockwall.com/citysec_yacapp.asp by Friday, August 22. Short interviews will take place after school hours on Thursday, September 4 at City Hall. Thereafter, final selection of students will be made by the Rockwall City Council at its Monday, September 15 meeting.
