Rockwall, TX (August 13, 2025) – The City of Rockwall will begin the decommissioning process for the Squabble Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility, located at 2219 Dickson Lane, on Monday, August 18, 2025. The facility, in continuous operation since 1975, has served the community for five decades and is now being retired as part of the City’s and North Texas Municipal Water District’s (NTMWD) long-term infrastructure and wastewater management plan.
The NTMWD will handle the decommissioning process, which will include emptying tanks, removing accumulated sludge, and dismantling certain portions of the plant’s infrastructure. As part of this process, trapped materials will be disturbed, which may temporarily result in noticeable odors in the surrounding area. While these odors are typically less intense than those produced during normal operations, residents in nearby neighborhoods may notice them intermittently for approximately 2–3 weeks as tanks are cleaned and dried. The City appreciates residents’ understanding and patience during this short transition period.
