Back Elementary’s Ashley Ross to compete for Texas Teacher of the Year

Garland, TX (August 4, 2025) — Garland ISD is proud to announce that Back Elementary’s Ashley Ross has been named the 2026 Region 10 Elementary Teacher of the Year. Known for her joyful teaching style, focus on inclusivity, and ability to build meaningful connections, Ross will now represent the region in the Texas Teacher of the Year competition.

“This is a dream come true,” Ross shared. “It’s humbling, exciting, and gratifying to know that staying true to who I am is being recognized in such a big way. I love being a teacher and working with kids.”

GISD Superintendent Dr. Ricardo López praised Ross for exemplifying the heart of public education. “Ashley embodies everything positive about education for GISD and Region 10. It is an honor to have her representing Garland ISD. She is a phenomenal example of excellence for teachers all across the state of Texas.”

In addition to the title, the Region 10 award includes a monetary prize and Texas Rangers tickets, both courtesy of the Texas Rangers, as well as two complimentary business-class flights, sponsored by Pogue Construction.

Earlier this year, Ross earned the district’s Elementary Teacher of the Year award, which included a car wrapped in “GISD Teacher of the Year” branding from Rockwall Toyota. The vehicle has become a mobile symbol of her impact that continues to turn heads and spark conversations throughout the community.

“Ashley stood out to the selection committee not only because of her incredible work in the classroom, but also because of the deep bonds she builds with her students and their families,” said Rachel Frost, Region 10’s Chief Communications Officer. “She brings something truly special to education.”

As Ross advances to the state level, Garland ISD celebrates her unmatched influence and unwavering commitment to shaping the future, one student at a time.
