Rockwall, TX (September 7, 2025) – Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper announced her intent to run for re-election in front of several hundred supporters at a Labor Day barbeque event at her home.
“I have been so honored to serve as the Rockwall County DA and love representing this community and this state,” she said. “I am very proud of what we have built here and the collaborations we have created, including those with law enforcement, community organizations, and other justice departments. We love having the reputation as one of the most respected offices in Texas.”

Culpepper was elected as the Rockwall County District Attorney in 2008 and was the first woman in the history of North Texas to take office as a DA. She supervises over forty employees (including 20 prosecutors), and her office handles almost all of the criminal prosecutions in the county.
“I take my responsibilities as District Attorney very seriously,” she told another group of supporters. “We have worked hand-in-hand with local law enforcement to help make Rockwall County one of the safest counties in the state, even while being in close vicinity to more urban areas. When violence does touch our community, though, we respond with swift and aggressive prosecution. Rockwall County has a reputation for being tough on crime and unrelenting in the pursuit of justice.”

Culpepper is a Vice President of the National District Attorneys Association and a past President of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association. She is the current chair of the Texas Bar Foundation and Immediate Past Chair of the Texas Bar College, and she has served as the Chair of the State Bar of Texas Criminal Justice Section and the Professionalism Committee.
In 2021, she was named by her state-wide peers as the “Texas Prosecutor of the Year.” In 2022, she was named by the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research as one of “The Five Best Prosecutors in America.”
Locally, she is the President of the Rockwall Noon Rotary Club and has served on the Boards of the Lone Star Chapter of the National Charity League, Rockwall Women’s League, RISD Education Foundation, Rockwall County Bar Association and others. She is a co-founder of the Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County and served as the President of its Board of Directors. She is also a co-founder of the North Texas Regional Veterans Court, the first of its kind in the nation.
She additionally founded the Rockwall County Young Republicans and served as the State Chair of the Texas Young Republican Federation in 2007. Local Republican groups have awarded her the GOP “Sparks Award”, the GOP “Chairman’s Award” and the Rockwall County Republican Women’s Club “Woman of Influence.”
She is married to former Rockwall Mayor Jim Pruitt, and they have a daughter who is a freshman at Texas A&M University. They are members of the First United Methodist Church of Rockwall.
