A Broad View by Jerry Hogan: More Election Details

Rockwall, TX (December 15, 2025) – Well, the filing season for personnel to sign up to run for the various County, State, and some National offices ended this last week. On the Republican side there are some familiar names as well as several new ones. A total of 41 individuals signed up here in Rockwall County for various elected positions.

At the Republican County Precinct level, the big news is that Alma McClintock will be taking over these duties from Sharon Henson effective June 15, 2026. Of the 22 Republican Precincts, the only contested one is Precinct 2D where Constance Paris is being challenged by Grant Buckholz.

At the County level, two major offices have challengers. At the County Judge position, Frank New is being challenged by Scott Muckensturm who is President of the Royce City ISD Board of Trustees and General Manager of Blackland Water. Commissioner 4, John Stacy has two challengers: James Branch, a Royce City Town Council member for many years, and Lorne Megyesi, a former Mayor of Fate. Both of these should be aggressive races!

Running unopposed in the Republican primary on March 4, 2026, is Commissioner 2 Dana Macalik, County Clerk Jennifer Fogg, County Treasurer David Peek, District Attorney Kenda Culpepper, District Clerk Lea Carlson, Judge 503rd District Court Brian Williams, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Tony Norton, and County Constable Precinct 3 Steve Frazier.

Contested races include Judge, Court at Law No. 1, which features four candidates. They are Richard Archbald, Cameron Cowan, Ben Massar, and Tiffany Miller. Another contested race is for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 where two candidates include Victor Carillo and former Rockwall County Judge Chris Florance.

At the State and National level there are many candidates. Nine candidates are running to replace Pat Fallon in Congressional District 32. Eight candidates are running for the Texas Senate seat now held by John Cornyn. The big names in this race are John Cornyn, Ken Paxton, and Wesley Hunt. For Governor, eleven individuals have registered to run for this position. Of these eleven, Governor Abbott is expected to easily win reelection.

For Texas Senator, District 2, Bob Hall has one competitor who is Jason Eddington. Katrina Pierson is the only candidate for Texas State Representative, District 33. Four individuals are running for Lieutenant Governor while another four are running for Texas Attorney General.

With the number of candidates running for these positions, it probably is going to be a busy three months as the primary election is March 4, less than three months from now. Be prepared for an avalanche of printed material in your mailbox, people knocking on your door, commercials on your TV, invitations to neighbor’s houses for “getting to know the candidate”, town hall meetings, scheduled debates, newspaper ads, and the list goes on and on.

And while all this is happening, the business of the government must go on. At the National level the new outcry seems to be centered on drug boats that are sunk, oil tankers that are boarded and taken, Epstein Files, the trial of the guy that shot the CEO of a medical insurance company in New York, and, by the time this is published, there will probably be at least one new item that qualifies as opposition to the current administration.

At the same time, tiding of good cheer and peace to all men will ring from the TV’s, radios, and pulpits from all the church’s as we prepare for the glorious Christmas season.

Hopefully it will be a glorious season with peace in the Middle East and Ukraine, and our service men and women everywhere can rest and enjoy this time of the year we all celebrate so faithfully each holiday season.

Merry Christmas to all and thank God for our military that continues to keep us safe year over year. If you see a Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine, please tell them thanks for what they do!
